Colleen Johnson

Colleen Johnson

Colleen Johnson, current Tooele County Commission Chair, started her political career as a Member of the Tooele City Council in 1998. She served 7 years on the City Council along with 4 years on the Tooele City Planning Commission. She was also a member of the Tooele City Redevelopment Agency, The Tooele City Library Board, Tooele County Board of Aging and the United Way Grant Committee.

In 2004 Colleen was elected to the Tooele County Board of Commissioners, starting her four year term in January of 2005, she is currently in her fourth year, and running for re-election.

In conjunction with being a Commissioner, Colleen also serves on several local and state committees and boards. They include, County Redevelopment Agency Chair, County Taxing Authority Chair, Member of Council of Governments, Dept. of Workforce Services Central Region Committee, Tooele County Board of Health, Tooele County Chamber of Commerce Board, Valley Mental Health Advisory Board, Children's Justice Center Advisory Board, Wendover Airfield Board of Historic Preservation, Utah Defense Alliance Board, Economic Development of Utah Board, Tooele County Medical Reserve Corp., Career and Technical Education Committee, Community Development Block Grant Committee, Local Homeless Coordinating Committee Chair and the Governor's Great Salt Lake Advisory Council.

In 2005, Colleen helped other community and religious leaders form a "Needs Summit", in which they identified the most critical needs of the community. This 'Need Summit' resulted in the formation of a Relief Services Coordinator Position, which helps people find and receive the services and resources they need. She also helped form the Tooele Valley Community Cooperative, a 501 c3 organization that helps small charitable and historic organizations collect and distribute donations. The Needs Summit Committee then became the core members of the Local Homeless Coordinating Committee and they are working with the State of Utah on their "Housing First Initiative" and 'Housing Works' Program.

Colleen is a native of Tooele County, born and raised in Grantsville, attended school in Grantsville, and also attended the University of Utah. She is married to Bob Johnson, they are the parents of two boys and have three grandchildren. They own and operate Bob's Garage & Diesel and are active in their Church and community.
